Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop - plus a give away

Hello, hello, hello.  Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit with me and all of the other hoppers who  are exchanging virtual goodies this week.  Many thanks also to Carol for again taking on the task of coordinating this special event.

I have mentioned before that I am not a baker.  I have determined that the problem for me with baking is that it requires to much rule following and I don't like to follow rules ( that's why I'm a quilter ).  I discussed this with my sister who does bake and we determined that our mother (another who didn't follow rules) didn't bake.  We could only remember her making one type of cookie when we were growing up.  All I could remember was that it had sweetened condensed milk in it.

Magic Cookie Bars  by Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk

I googled cookies with sweetened condensed milk and there they were.  Apparently it is an extremely popular cookie world wide.  What I loved most about finding the recipe on google was that  people responded to the  recipe and wanted to know why it was put together in a different order than they were taught.  It really did make me smile.

Well I choose to make them the way the questioners were making them.  It felt more comfortable for some reason.

The recipe uses nuts in addition to the chocolate chips and coconut flakes and has suggestions for other items.  My household splits on the use of nuts so I divided the pan into 3 sections.  One end section I used nuts while the other end section I used  craisins and the middle section got some kind of a mix of the two.

Since this is a Christmas hop I packaged an assortment of my cookies for 2 of my friends as early presents.  I etched 2 small plates with Christmas trees and wrapped them up in cellophane.  Then I added an etched ornament of the same but smaller tree.

The cookies are gone and they got rave reviews.  One friend decided that they were a healthy snack because of the craisins 😋

This turned out to be a wonderful look back into my childhood so thanks Carol for a great time on so many levels.

So I'm having a give away of sorts.  Of late I have had to admit to myself that I am drowning in scraps. Scraps of all sizes and shapes.  None of them organized or pressed because that would be close to rule following.

I have at least 6 large laundry baskets and several drawers of them and I want to give most of them away.  Huge variety of types colors and prints no rhyme no reason.  I am willing to ship boxes, bags and envelopes of assorted scraps to some of you in the US (sorry but postage is limiting).

If you are interested in scraps leave a note in your comment and I'll be in touch.  I'd love to know what you might do with them but that's not a necessity in getting some.  Depending on the interest will determine how much I mail to how many.  I won't start mailing until the new year and then depending on how many of you are interested, packages may take a bit to get shipped out but my goal is to get this project done by the end of February at the very latest.

So that's it from me in Sunny Florida ( don't cuss me out, today we are having a low of 34 ).

Please make sure you visit everyone one who is virtually sharing their cookies and other Christmas memories.  Here is a list for your browsing convenience.  Looking forward to hopping with you all again in 2021.   Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. Above all Stay Safe.

    1. Hello, I am Theresa Williams After being in relationship with Anderson for years, he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to my friend and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him. That was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made a promise that anybody I know that has a relationship problem, I would be of help to such a person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem. His email: {drogunduspellcaster@gmail.com} you can email him if you need his assistance in your relationship or any other Case.

  3. I can't believe I am saying this but the scraps sound great! I have so much fabric but a piece that someone else loved makes me happy.

  4. I love those magic cookies, and I love coconut. No one else in my house likes coconut so I don't make them often. Cute tree plate and great presentation to wrap them all up like that. Happy Holidays. Some one else's scraps are like opening up a Christmas present, you don't know what you get until you open it!! I'd put it toward donation quilts.

  6. What a lovely gift for your friends (and for us, too!) Thank you for offering up some of your scraps. I'm always up for a scrap infusion! :o))

  7. I love making Magic Cookie Bars. They are really delicious and oh-so-easy to make. I am not a baker either. Most things look too complicated to me to even try.
I would love to have some of your scraps. I am an elderly woman living on a fixed income so these would be so appreciated. I like making scrappy sampler quilts and these would be used for those. Thank you for the chance.

  8. Oh wow - another great memory! I haven't made these cookie bars since our kids were small (they're in their late 30's now). This was a staple recipe every year back then.
Thank you for the fun giveaway, but count me out - I'm in Canada.

  9. Thank you for the cookies! They look so yummy.

I would love to get some of your scraps. I'm one who uses up scraps a whole lot. One good use of them is on the back of quilting projects such as mug rugs, table runners, etc, which makes them reversible.

  10. No thank you to the scraps - I am in a similar situation with mine!
But... I had forgotten about Magic Cookie Bars. I love those!! Easy and nostalgic. Great post.

  13. I've made those cookie bars before too. Your etched plates are lovely. I am also drowning in scraps, so sorry I can't take any off your hands! Good luck, and thanks for sharing!

  14. Those magic cookie bars were always a hit when we were growing up. Who knew that using craisins made them health food. LOL!!!! You have a lot of scraps. I might have that many myself. I love doing scrappy quilts and have the templates all printed to start a pineapple quilt. If you don't find homes for your scraps, I would be happy to adopt some. I will even pay the postage. I really need to figure out why my Cameo Silhouette is unhappy. I miss glass etching. Have a very Merry Christmas.

  15. My mom made those bars every year and they were my favorite. I can't believe I've never made them myself! I'd never thought of putting craisons in them...yum. I love, love those etched gift ideas. Thanks for sharing them and hopping with us! xo

  16. Oh I love Magic Squares! Though these days, the sugar content would send me over the edge. I'll just have to remember them fondly!

  17. I love your friends thinking. The bars do sound yummy and look lovely wrapped up on the pretty plate. A perfect gift giving idea.

  21. Your cookies look yummy! If you still have the scraps, I would be interested. I belong to a small (5 or 6 on a good day) and we make quilts for donations to our local Dept of Social Services for the children who are taken into custody. Thanks.

  22. Nice to stop by for a visit today , what a wonderful idea for your friends . I'd love some of your scraps but alas I'm not in the US , I'm sure whoever receives them will have lots of fun playing

  23. Your plate and ornament look so nice! Simple but Christmasy. How sweet of you to share fabric scraps. I love mystery bags or boxes of fabric! I don't know what I will do with the fabric as I usually let the fabric tell me but I find joy in making blocks, small gifts, charity sewing such as the shoebox program and more. Based on comments so far, there are worthy choices and no matter the who, fabric scraps will be going to good homes. Thanks for sharing cookies and memories!

  25. Great idea to make different varieties in one pan. Love your etching. What a great gift idea!

  26. Selina, I love your etching. It sounds like a lot of fun for both the plates and the ornament. I tend to agree with your friend, craisins definitely make this recipe healthy! LOL Anything with Eagle brand milk in it is wonderful IMO!! Thanks for sharing.

  27. Your etching is awesome. My scraps are getting out of hand and postage, wow. Last week I went to ship a small box of scraps to Canada and it was going to be $55. Nope, the whole box of scraps weren't worth that much. Merry Christams

  28. Merry Christmas! Beautiful etched projects. That's one of my fav cookie recipes too, because you can add whatever you like on the top and it is always delicious. My scraps seem to be reproducing at night when I'm not looking. I've started sorting, pressing, organizing, but it will take several months to work my way through the scrap bins. Good luck with your collection! :o)

  29. I sure enjoy being reminded of that bar recipe. We made it too, and it's SO calorie-packed! Ahh for those younger days of being able to eat almost anything I wanted, as often as I wanted. Your etched pieces are just lovely, and I'm happy for you to have found this new avenue of exploration. Please don't enter me in your giveaway. :-) Though I'm not "drowning in scraps," I have enough that I'm struggling to stay afloat! No doubt, others will appreciate your generosity... as you always do.

  30. Oh the cookies look good. I like the etched plates. I need to give that a try. And the scraps--I would love some. I make charity blankets for kids and Quilts of Valor. Thanks

  31. Hi Salina, it's been a logon while. Since we have talked. My bad, I went back to work out of necessity. Hoping to go to part time after Christmas. Miss blogging and sewing friends.

We always called the cookies 7 layer cookies, love them and so easy. I'm not a banker either.

I would love to have some of your scraps. And I too well reimburse your postage. I love surprises
And this will be a whole box full of smiles.

I'm joining you and Carol in January's Heart of Fire hop. It's been a year since I have been in a hop.
You and yours have a Merry Christmas and stay safe.
