I'm Falling For You Blog Hop

Hi everybody and Special thanks to Joan of Moose Stash Quilting our wonderful coordinator for this fun hop.

I am participating in this hop but not with what I had hoped to make. Last month I had what I thought was a brilliant idea for the term "Falling" It was so brilliant that I drew it up and left it on the kitchen table and looked at it everyday and smiled. I knew exactly what fabric (I thought )I had in my stash. And felt I could knock it off in a couple of hours.

So as we all know, the best laid plans of a quilter don't always work the way we hope. And wow is time just flying by. I set September 19 as my sew day for this hop and I did manage to keep my calendar clear. So mid morning with my diagram in hand I headed to my stash.

The fabric I thought I had wasn't where I thought I would find it except for one piece, My cloud covered sky. Ok so I had to make a quick switch from my falling snow ball that grows up to be a snowman. I stared at my stash and hoped for something to jump out at me.

And low and behold the leaves popped out to join my sky.

My new vision was to have some falling leaves land on a pile of leaves.

My new issue was that the leaves on the pile of leaf fabric were a little too big to go with my falling leaves. So since I was aiming for a wall hanging I decided to shrink down my leaf size using my printer and some muslin. I took it down to 85% of the original size.

I added some aging grass

And now my leaves are Falling For YOU.

Since this hop was announced I had 2 fun things happen that fell nicely under this hop heading that I thought I would share with you cause everyone needs a smile.

I live in Sunny Florida. While it is not as hot as lots of the rest of the country we are currently at 90 plus degrees for over 100 days so far this year. That generally means air conditioning and ceiling fans. I love this whirly gig quilt while it was easy sewing it was a pain in the butt to get the colors placed correctly both color and angle.

I was using a very cinchy flannel backed vinyl table cloth and someone turned on the ceiling fan. Definitely Falling For Me

And last but not least yet another heat related item for this hop.

Yes that is a spoonful of melting chocolate ice cream. my chin is at the tip top of the picture and that white knot is my waist. Covered a lot of territory.

This is not the spoonful that fell. This is the spoonful that followed 15 minutes later after the major clean up. I'm guessing I was being punished by the powers that be. 😉😉

Orange You Glad Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on the Orange You Glad Blog Hop. Well I'm glad that Carla of Creatin' in The Sticks has come up with yet another great hop idea and has taken on the coordination of this event.

Earlier in the year I participated in the annual Hands 2 Help project and was fortunate enough to receive a choice of quilt patterns from Kristy Daum for my participation. I choose her pattern Floor Plan The pattern was set up in 2 ways. One, my choice, was strip pieced and the other was in a traditional lay out. Her pattern did not include the gray sneakers, those were my personal choice.

I received the pattern right around the time that this hop, looking for something Orange was announced. I loved the pattern and really wanted to make it immediately but I had no need to do's on my list. Since I had no specific requests making a quilt in Orange was just perfect timing.

I even found some wide fabric that had orange in it.

I must admit if you asked me before this hop was announced if I had enough stash in the orange family to make it I would have said no. I was absolutely amazed with just how much orange fabric I actually owned. This top was made entirely from my stash and scraps.

Last minute update:

This morning I read the Hop post by Tubakk (Densvendehimmel) and she mentioned always including a pin cushion in her hops and I realized I usually include a mug rug. I also realized that I didn't really have the time to make one. I did have time to hunt down a previously completed one in my pile of mug rugs that was at least in part orange

And while I was at it I pulled 3 pincushions from the pincushion bin that were also in part orange.

The top one is the back of a pin cushion not just a boring pin cushion. I know I'm just a copy cat.

Fairy Tales Blog Hop

Sometimes blog hop suggestions and internet tidbits run into each other with perfect timing. Joan's idea for this hop about Fairy Tales and an article about an audio book series crossed my path in the same week.

To be honest when I signed up I had no idea whatsoever what I would do for this hop and I was pretty much going to do something regarding a traditional fairy tale with a Disney spin. But then an article regarding Doctor Who audio books caught my eye and my personal fairy tale started to take form.

Yes what better tale could there be than spending time in the TARDIS. If you are at all curious about the TARDIS this link will get you to more info than you could possible want to know. Otherwise it stands for Time And Relative Dimension in Space. Its the Police Public Call Box that the Doctor travels in. Its a Type 40 time and space machine from Gallifrey, his home planet.

I have been a follower of The Doctor Who BBC program for several years so the idea of making this quilt for myself was truly a Fairy Tale. I just don't know why I never thought of it before.

I googled TARDIS quilt patterns and was amazed at the choices out there in our universe.

Really as a quilt pattern goes this one called Relatively Dimensional by Hunter's Design Studio was really incredibly easy. Lots of straight seams with 3 main fabrics and a couple of small extra pieces for the windows, lights and signs. The piece finishes at 50 x 80.

The tough part was the wording. Especially the small wording on the white panel. According to the pattern designer you could order a panel with the words for both sections from Spoonflower . The pattern did include a print out of the wording in the correct size if one wanted to embroider, applique or trace.

Me I went to my other toys. The wording for Police Public Call Box is done with Heat Transfer Vinyl cut on my Scan N Cut.

It always helps to mirror image the letters for Heat Transfer as words and not just letters. DUH

and the door panel information was done by printing from my copier directly onto the fabric..

Not exactly centered. Sadly I didn't even notice that until it was way past my ripping point. I think it was a combination of time of day and excitement.

I haven't gotten it quilted yet since I don't have a solid idea as to what I want. Currently thinking scattered stars but not really sure.

So there you have the basis for my personal fairy tale. Sorry but I can't share with you which of the Doctors I will be sharing my TARDIS Fairy Tale with as I'm having a problem deciding if it will be

David Tennant - the 10th Doctor

Christopher Eccleston -the 9th Doctor

Matt Smith - the 11th Doctor

Last but far from least my personal Dr. Who, MJ.

He is 6'3" so it's a good thing that the Tardis is bigger on the inside than the out.

One of them or maybe all of them, hummmmmmmmmm

I'm sure whomever I choose, my Fariy Tale will have a happy ending.

H2H 2021 Challenge

This year there were 4 organizations chosen for Hands 2 Help plus the option to make and donate to a local charity of your choosing. Also a 5th option to make a quilt for a HOMETOWN HERO.

One of my resolutions for 2021 was to work on some of the amazing number of UFO's I have collected over the years. I was able to use 4 of these pieces for the good of others in this Challenge.

This quilt went to Covered in Love. A couple of years ago I made a version of this quilt using the pattern by Jamie Elfert for H2H. I was away and made lots of the blocks while spending down time in a hotel room. In the UFO box I found a baggie of the left over blocks. I actually put this quilt together and had 1 block left. Follow the link for the pattern Have Faith Quilt by Jamie Elfert and its tutorial. She generously provided it for the H2H2018 Challenge.

This quilt went to Little Lambs. It is made using a panel from 2005. I don't remember buying the panel or where it may have come from but it is no more a panel it is now a wonderful completed childs quilt.

This quilt went to Quilty Hugs. It was a finished top from a class I took a couple of years ago. Why wasn't it finished? I was able to totally sandwiched, quilted and bind it in a weekend, DUH.

This unfinished quilt top is on its way to Victoria Quilts Canada. This was the easiest of all of this years quilts since it was finished several years ago and only had to be stuck in an envelope. OK filling out the post office form was a project (tee, hee) but Victoria Quilts doesn't need the quilts to be quilted. They take care of that process in Canada to save us some coin on the postage.

I have picked a Hometown Hero and I was planning on making her quilt on Tuesday this week at a guild Challenge but found out today that the challenge has been postponed. I now need to decide if I want to wait or make something else. My goal is to be done sometime in August either way.

Thanks to Sarah for coordinating this wonderful giving event. It appears, already, to be another huge success.

Born To Be Wild Blog Hop

Hello Hoppie Friends,

I'm so happy to be participating in another wonderful Hop coordinated for your viewing pleasure by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt .

When I first signed up for this hop I made a note in my calendar for "The Jungle Hop" and from that point on Jungle ideas were all that I was tying to the projects I was considering. I pulled all of the fabric in my stash remotely related to jungles, duh.

I did have one solid plan and that was for an Easy Peasy drawstring Backpack using some of my fun kid fabric stash. My guild is currently working at making these bags for moms in a local womans shelter. Some of the fabric that was donated was for kids and that got us thinking that the kids would probably need some basics as badly as their moms.

I've had this wonderful fun jungle fabric in my stash for way to long. Yea, 2005 is what it really says. Time to put it to good use.

I usually make the front and back the same but got more mileage using the cuties just on the front and coordinating fabric on the backs.

This year one of my goals was to clean up some of my UFO's. While looking for "jungle"fabric I found a great jungle panel in one of the bins. I don't think I've done more than one or two panels in my quilting lifetime and have no idea where this one came from but it fit my version of the theme of this hop and will find a happy home with one of the H2H2021 Charities this year.

This panel had a date in the selvage of 2013. I believe that makes it a UFO.

Then last week we received our 2 weeks to go reminder about the "Born To Be Wild" hop

and I realized that all that jungle thinking was behind me. I am a lover of Clip Art and go there often for ideas . So I typed in Born to be Wild and got an interesting mix of ideas that I thought may or may not work.

Since I had a very busy schedule over the past couple of weeks I thought I might go with ideas for maybe pin cushions, mug rugs, placemats - you know the type of quickie things that are just plain ole fun to make on the fly.

I found 2 designs that I loved. One I thought would make a great pin cushion and one a very sweet mug rug that I would enjoy waking up to in the morning.

I started with the pin cushion while I was watching TV in the back ground. Well I didn't size it very well when I went to print in out onto my fabric and instead of stopping and starting over I just kept with it.

The first border was on before my brain realized that an 8 inch plus square may be just a tad large for a pin cushion. In for a penny, I decided to just add another border and call it a mug rug. By the time that was on it was dang near placemat size.

I really did want to make this design into a pin cushion so the next morning I started over and viola I got a pin cushion. The total pin cushion is just slightly smaller at 5 inches square, than the original print out.

I still had the one design that I did want for a mug rug. Isn't he the cutest fella. I'm in love.

Can't think of a sweeter way to start my day than with him at the table. He is so sweet that I want to share him with one of you. As you can see there are 2 of him. Make a note in your comment if you are interested in being in the drawing to win one of them and let me know which one, the light grey border or the dark grey border. He's little and lite weight so I will send him anywhere. Oh, and I have no idea how washable he may or may not be. I printed him out on my HP printer with HP ink and heavily heat pressed him onto the fabric.
