Welcome to The Winter Blues Blog Hop. It is kind of a Blue day since it is the last day of sharing terrific projects with Blue as their focus. Another great idea brought to us by Carla of Creatin In The Sticks So a big Thank You for another round of fun and ideas to add to our to do lists.
My quilting goal for 2020 is to make better use of the boxes of scraps and drawers of stash fabric taking up space in my home. Yes I will continue to buy new but I really need to focus on using up some of what I have. Therefore every blog hop I participate in this year will have at least one thing in it made using scraps or stash or both.
So to kick off the 2020 blog hops I have made a couple of zip purses using stash fabric.
These pouches were made for a zip pouch swap I participated in earlier this month. Once my swap partner let me know that she was open to getting her pouch in any color I was on a Winter Blues roll.
I made 2 pouches because I made them on my embroidery machine and that just felt like I was cheating. It is a design I got from Designs by JuJu
So now I have a question for you. When does a scrap become a scrap? This key fob was made with a piece of left over fabric from the fat quarter used to make this pouch. So does it qualify as scrap or just stash because it didn't get as far as the scrap box only to the end of the cutting table. hmmmmmmmmm
I think I'll give one away (pouch and key fob set) on Monday AM (1/27/2020) to one of you who leaves a comment.
Several of my quilting associates have been making these vinyl covered candy bag pouches. Well when it was suggested that we included other small items for our swap partner with our pouch I felt the need to go out and find a candy bag that not only had individually wrapped candies inside but that was also blue.
I was tickled that I found this one. The only problem was I didn't take into account that the bag was tall and thin making the zipper opening a bit small. Yeah I know I could have done it on the side but.
After it was finished I did check and it will hold a rotary cutter just fine.
Before I knew that I could make blue pouches I got started on a blue scrap quilt using this super simple block made up of 2.5 X 4.5 pieces. I love the quilt but it is depressing that it didn't make a dent in my blue scraps.
This lovely piece is made of stash fabrics. It is the back of the scrap quilt. I'm not sure which side I like more.
This quilt will go to Hands 2 Help 2020 Comfort Quilt Challenge this spring.
If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and drop in and visit all of the other participants in this wonderful sharing of Winter Blues ideas. Here is the complete list just in case.
Thanks for stopping in and visiting. Hope to have you back again soon.

I love the pouches! Thanks for the giveaway of one. I think a scrap is a scrap the minute it reaches a certain size - say 1 x 2 inches. =) Your strap is a scrap! We can't blame it for the housing neighborhood it was stuck in. LOL Also LOVE the rectangles quilt AND it's backing. It reminds me of one of the ones in the rectangles book I have.
ReplyDeleteIf scraps had to be a certain place to qualify mine would never get used! I love your scrap quilt!
ReplyDeleteGreat projects! I love the zippered SCRAP pouches.
ReplyDeleteCute zipper pouch and lovely scrap quilt. It probably would not make a dent in my blue scraps either so maybe I should make one. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteZipper pouches are one of my favorite things to sew and to receive. A scrap is anything not attached to the big hunk any more. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI love your zipper pouches. I have made the candy bags, and they are so fun and a great recycle. I tend to keep all kinds of sizes of scraps, and love you found a use for something before it was buried in the pile of scraps that grow every day!!
ReplyDeleteHi Selina! I had to smile about your pouches and quilt not making a dent in your blue scraps. Welcome to the real world - you are in great company. Your quilt is beautiful and I'm looking forward to H2H starting up again soon. I wonder how you quilted your pretty piece? I can see all the quilty goodness - it will be gratefully received and they'll feel all the love you stitched into it. That is so nice of you to giveaway one of your pouches! I'll bet your swap partner just loved it, especially with that extra thoughtful goodness tucked inside. Happy Friday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt. While I love the front I think the back is my favorite mainly because of the color. I can't answer your question because to be honest I don't have many scraps or stash. But I am building a collection in all sizes of Island Batik fabrics and theirs are the only scraps I save. Love the Jolly Rancher bag.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects, love that quilt backing!
ReplyDeleteWow, Selina, great projects - every single one. Your quilt is so fun with all the piecing. I always feel like my scraps grow as I try to use them. I just don't get it. Thanks for the giveaway and for joining the Winter Blues Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteI love your sweet zipper bags and that Jolly Rancher one is too cute! The zipper on the side is a great idea. My blue scraps don't grow, but my red ones do. I must pick up lots of reds when I'm shopping. Your simple block quilt is anything but simple and looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing, Selina!
ReplyDeleteGreat zipper bags, and beautiful quilt. Thanks so much for the giveaway, and for sharing your projects!
ReplyDeleteLove your little zipper bags, the candy one especially. The quilt is lovely too, but it made me giggle when you said it was depressing didn't even make a dent in your blue stash.
ReplyDeleteA lot of Wintery Blues goodness here, Selina! Bound to chase away the blues. Your pouches are great. Love the dots fabrics. A matching key fob is a surprise bonus. The Jolly Rancher candy pouch is cute. I don’t like putting the zippers on the sides. I like to keep the wrapper going in its intended direction. Your ‘dentless’ scrappy blue quilt is so pretty. Yes, on both sides! As has already been said, it will be gratefully received.
ReplyDeleteAdorable bags! I love in-the-hoop embroidery projects. Your Jolly Rancher bag is so cute! Great idea! Your blue scrap quilt is beautiful -- both sides! You have certainly chased away the winter blues with you wonderful creations!
ReplyDeleteYou are just so awesome. I love your goal of busting the scraps, while still shopping! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteThose little pouches are just adorable. What a fun find with the Jolly Rancher bag. Your Hands 2 Help comfort quilt is absolutely stunning. That is going to make someone feel very special!
Your zipper pouch and fob are so cute. I just love that grunge fabric you used. Love blue scrap quilt as week. I know what you mean about not making a dent in the scrap bag. I set out to make a scrap quilt and end up using lots of other fabrics - usually for background and use very little of the scraps.
ReplyDeleteI love your projects.... they are beautiful. I love the pouches and the Quilt with the pieces 2.5x4.5.
ReplyDeleteGreat pouches!! I keep wanting to make some, I even bought the zippers, but putting in a zipper after a 45 year break since the last time I made clothes with a zipper, I'm intimidated!! Your quilt is wonderful and I love the way the backing has the yellow corner triangles - awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome pouches and
ReplyDeletethe candy one is neat.
Lovely work on your
quilts.

Love all your projects. The pouches are really cute, as is the candy one! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteGreat blue projects! I keep seeing the pouches but have yet to make one. I need several in various sizes. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove, love. LOVE those Grunge Dot zip pouches (and the Jolly Rancher one, too!!!) Thanks for sharing these (and that wonderful scrap quilt with the Hop.)
ReplyDeleteLove your pouches and the blue quilt. Thank you for the chance to win your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post and thanks for sharing these blue projects.

ReplyDeleteVery nice pouches and I love the scrap quilt!
ReplyDeleteNice little pouches for a secret candy stash!
ReplyDeleteThe Jolly Rancher bag is cute. Makes me think of all the candy bags I have thrown away!
ReplyDeleteGreat little pouches! I use a tall & skinny pouch for my markers & pencils, and a small one for earbuds & a charger. Fun to make and they go together pretty quickly too. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects. The quilt is a great design for scraps!
ReplyDeleteProjects are lovely. The zip pouches are sweet and perfect for Jolly Ranchers.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun quilty sew-y things you made! Your zipper pouches are so cute, and that candy bag is just too perfect. Making those can be completely addictive! I’m glad for you to be digging into your blue stash. Would you believe... I hardly have any blues (like yours), but if you can call “aqua” - “blue,” then I’m in. I sure like your blue quilt, and where you’re donating it. Good for you!
