When I first heard about / saw this Dog Gone Cute Pup I knew I had to make at least one.
Of late I have been obsessed with back packs ( see previous posting) and I thought that this "Cute" pup would be perfect. The measurements for the finished large Dog block was close enough to what I'd been using for the back packs so off I went.
It would have been a good looking back pack if I wanted my pup standing on its ear. Some
days I scare myself when I take off at full speed without engaging my brain.
I tried adding some fabric top and bottom but that would only work if I intended to give the back pack to a line backer. So pup got stuck on my design wall for a few weeks and kept me company while I waited for an idea.
I was still stuck on the backpack idea so I went ahead and made one of the smaller dogs. The pattern has so many Dog Gone Cute dogs to choose from.
I expanded the block and cut down the size of the back pack and came up with this cutie.
I knew exactly who I would send this one to.
Our great niece just started Pre K and I thought this would be a great bag for her "stuff". I filled it with a couple of Disney projects and off it went.
The straps needed a little adjusting. I shrank down the back pack and forgot to shorten the straps.
Perfect.
Now back to my newest companion.
I finally decided that I would make him into a simple baby quilt.
I bordered him out slowly.
I thought about adding "things" but nothing really appealed to me.
Here he is all done. I took him for a cart ride to take some great pictures in the beautiful sun light.
This is as close as I got to getting a picture of the backing.
As any good dog knows when you go visiting you get your choice of chairs so long as you are Dog Gone Cute. Mine had trouble making up his mind.
Turned out he was partial to the rocker.
In the end he was so Dog Gone Cute I had to throw him a bone.
The girls were not very happy playing second fiddle.

ReplyDeleteYour projects are adorable. Love the matching boots on your niece too. She's a cutie.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea making a backpack. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteThe backpack you made from the little pup design is as cute as can be. Made me smile to see it hanging low, in the first picture. I've made "unthinking" mistakes like that myself! Glad to see it was fixable. And the baby quilt on the fence... I was at that same fence today myself, taking a picture of my recent finish! And those rockers... Sometime we'll have to go quilt-picture-taking together.
ReplyDeleteTwitchy, witchy! The day you posted Dog Gone Cute is the day I found Dog Gone Cute!!! Love the backpack great idea for a Pre-Ker. Kids love bags for their "stuff" And you are a terrific Aunt! Baby quilt is cute too and of course, dots for backing!

ReplyDeleteLove the use of the smaller back on the back pack - I had thought of using one on the front of a messenger bag flap - this may prompt me to do it. The finished larger block is lovely too.
ReplyDeleteBeyond cute!!! The back packs and the the girls!
ReplyDeleteI really like the simple look of your baby quilt. Why haven't I thought about something like that? The back pack is cute too!
