So 3 weeks ago I was at the LQS buying the fabric for this hexie project. I am not a great Hexie kinda gal. Took this hop on for the challenge. Several years ago I dabbled in Grandmother's Flower Garden Blocks, even taught a class at my Guild but I just found them to be slow going. When this hop presented itself I decided that what I needed to do was design a quilt using minimal Hexie's but being all about Hexies.
Back to the hurdles... I got the fabric home and did the first cuts.
Officially started 16 days before posting, not bad. Lets jump to 14 days prior to posting and find me in the emergency room at 3 AM. By 10 AM they have determined that I need to be admitted for Gall Stones. They also determine that I need to have the Gall Bladder removed sooner rather than later. Day 3 in the hospital they decide to send me home for a long weekend.
So I'm back on track for the Hexie Hop. After all I have a 3 day weekend and I really can't eat anything worth taking time for. I did have a couple of other things that needed to be done on the weekend, chief among them was the giveaway from the last hop (congrats to Connie who is now in possession of her Bowl Buddies) and getting some projects set up for any down time surgery was going to toss my way. So I did some more cutting and some trial blocks.
I did get most of the rest of the cutting done before heading back to the hospital for surgery on Monday. I now have a week left and I will admit that on Tuesday morning I did think about sending "She who is in charge" my regrets ; } but by the time I was up to using the computer I was up to using the sewing machine.
The recovery from this surgery has been unbelievable. Technology is just amazing. I'm writing the bulk of this post on Friday, you know 4 days after surgery, after spending the day running errands and eating out. I'm scheduled to be back at work on Monday.
I so appreciate all of the prayers those of you who knew what was going on said on my behalf. I am blessed.
So in small doses I made my contribution to the Hexie Hop. It is all I had hoped it would be. It is simple and all things Hexie. While Hexie's tend to show up en mass I wanted mine to stand on their own. I got the top together before I realized I somehow messed up the alignment of the top and the bottom halves. I'm blaming it on the events.
I gave a lot of thought to ripping and fixing and decided against it. It represents my summer of 2013 and that's the way it will stay.
Thanks for stopping by and visiting all of us who are participating in this terrific hop that spotlights just how versitale a Hexie can be. I never would have thought that to be the case. Thanks also to Madamm Samm and Ms. Debby for all of their support and know how. Please take the time to visit all of the other participants today.

What a beautiful quilt! Every time you see it you will think of your gall stones! I'm so glad you are recovering so quickly. Yes, technology has changed so much. Thirty years ago, you would still be in the hospital and really sick!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the neat bowl warmers...they were used at dinner last night! Your quilt is wonderful and the use of just a few hexies is perfect. I'm glad the surgery went so well for you!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the simplicity of your quilt and the fabric choices for your hexies :)
Your hexie quilt looks just beautiful! I'm so glad you're up and moving again. :O)
ReplyDeleteCute quilt and I am glad you are feeling better so quickly. Wonderful of you to keep on going with your project even with your surgery.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is adorable...I like the way you made your Hexies, now why didn't I think of that?? Thanks fo sharing with us all.
ReplyDeleteWhat a striking way to show off hexies (and a clever way to piece them)! Glad you're on the mend and wishing you a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteWow - you certainly had to perform under pressure, didn't you? And you did it - love the soft quilt design!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it just the way it is!!!! Great job and under that stress I bet it was a reliever? Or more stress??? Oh well it is awesome! Can't wait to see it quilted... lots of beautiful negative space to play in:)
ReplyDeleteSO glad your back into the swing of things. Hope your hospital visit wasn't too tramatic. Make Tink take good care of you for awhile now. :-) Love the simplicity of your hexie project!
ReplyDeleteHiya!!! Glad your surgery went well. I had to have my gall bladder removed about 25 years ago, so I have the nice long torso scar to remind me, and that was a 6 to 8 week recovery time. You did a great job on the quilt. And in such a short time too. It looks great. Thanks for sharing. Blessed be, hugs!!! Pam

Considering your circumstances you did really well. I don't think you need to take it apart. Your quilt looks great the way it is. Reminds me of those gumball machines or a vintage waterfall game with the hexies falling down.
ReplyDeleteSimple and effective in the design. Reminds me of a plinko game, like on Price is Right, LOL. It is amazing that you got your piece this far considering.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are making a good recovery from your surgery. Pin cushions should be manageable, size wise. THX for sharing today.
Holey Moley, you did it again, as in "outdid yourself"!!
ReplyDeleteGood job!

I think your quilt is very pretty and I think you did a wonderful job considering the circumstances.

ReplyDeleteIsn't modern medicine amazing? Glad you are recovering so well.
ReplyDeleteYour hexie project looks wonderful. I like the focus on the hexies.
Selina, Hope you are feeling much, much better. Gall stones are not much fun. I've been there. When I finally had my gall bladder out, it was so misshappen, the surgeon said he was going around showing other surgeons - he just couldn't believe it. Also, I still had a port in from having chemotherapy. The doctors were just insisting that I have it out - it had just been in too long. I didn't want it out. I knew my veins weren't very good. They ended up putting me to sleep for the surgery using my port. When I came back from surgery, they had cut my arm to put in a line. My husband's ex-wife was a nurse, and he was upset about it. It was not a good day. I pray that your recovery is going well and that you are on the mend. I am amazed that you were able to accomplish such an amazing quilt with so much going on. And I amazed that you were sent home for a three day weekend instead of having surgery - geez! I had to wait for kidney stone surgery for three weeks once because the machine was broken. I just laid on the couch with pain meds. Your quilt is adorable. I love the fabrics and colors you used. Thanks for participating in the hop and sharing your amazing creativity.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you are doing well and have to say that I am really impressed that you got it done. You are a trooper!Good for you.
ReplyDeletecheers

ReplyDeleteWow hexies are addicting LOL pretty quilt, I am glad you are feeling well!
ReplyDeleteTechnology is wonderful - most of the time - except when you'd like a few more days of 'no work' to sew!! lol I like the simplicity of your quilt and the hexies are great. I'd not have noticed the placement if you'd said nothing. We are our own worst critics.
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of you getting your quilt top finished. It looks great. The hexies stand out with your design. I guess it's true that less IS more. Keep following doctor's orders not over do, and feel better.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt top is beautiful! Glad to hear you are the road to a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteI had my gall bladder out a few years back. I was amazed at how good I felt so soon after my surgery also. I love your quilt. I like the strips and the fact of the hexies being by themselves! 'm sure it will be lovely after it is quilted. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt and the way you laid out the hexies very pretty. I hope that you continue to feel better and recover from your surgery. Blessings

ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. It really highlights the hexies. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt. You are very creative.
ReplyDeleteSo happy your surgery went well. You know, after having a C-section, they tell you not to lift anything heavier than your baby - THAT never works!!!! Great project and very pretty! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are on the mend. Thanks for sharing your fun project.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is very pretty and I think you did a wonderful job. I'm glad that you are recovering quickly. You are right, the Technology is just amazing. Thirty years ago Gall Bladder surgery meant being cut from one end to the other and at least a six week recovery. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure you've had...wow! I admire your persistence!
ReplyDeleteAnd I admire modern technology...when I had my gallbladder out in 1986, I was in agony for about 6 weeks.

ReplyDeleteSome times life does that to us!! I love your quilt! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHmm...I also had my gall bladder out this summer but never recieved orders for no heavy lifting, pushing or pulling...which is a good thing because after 2 days I was up and raring to do something. LOL. Your quilt is great and I hope you'll put the story on the back since it's a history of your summer of 2013 :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your massive achievement after surgery. You are amazing. I love the simplicity of the Hexys ...beautiful.
