Very productive week

I had a wonderfully productive week.  I had 2 more child/baby quilts to do and I managed to finish one of them.   A friend's son had a very simple baby quilt that was his emotional favorite.  It had seen a lot of wear and tear and laundering, but while it survived all of that it could not survive the dog.

This is what she handed me to use as a pattern to what was.

As you can see once opened up it did give me a good idea as to what I was aiming at.  She supplied the fabric and I fudged a quilt as close to the original as I could with the patten(ha) and the fabric supplied.

These were the best photos I could get of the work I did.  It really was a very simple process but it made for one very, very happy boy.

After that I was on to finishing up the request of my MIL for small gifts for her drivers. The ones I included in my posting of 3/25 were made with large pieces from my stash.

I really love these 2.  They were made with scraps. 

The black and white scraps were from the back of a quilt I made as a Christmas gift and the pastels are from an Easter project I am currently working on.

All in all a great week.  Hopefully this weekend I will get to the last of the baby quilts.  I have the blocks done.  They were made with the left overs from my swoon quilt.  Should be able to finish by next weekend, I hope.

TURTLES

I have a friend who collects turtle stuff.  She also cuts coupons.  Every Monday there are coupons for Michaels and AC Moore in my in box. She has saved me a fortune over the years.  Well, I found this great batik to back my Granny Square quilt last month and I decided that a gift for C was in order.  You see the batik was all over turtles.

This zip pouch comes in around 9 x 7 x 2.  I just love it.  I need to see if I have enough left over to make another.

Back from vacation

Got back on Thursday from a 6 day trip to Florida to visit "THE MOUSE'.  Friends who live in Florida came and spent 2 days with us and MJ's mom came up from south Florida to spend 3 days with us. Great time had by all.     By the time I spent 3 days with MJ's mother I some how found myself committed to making gifts for several of her friends.   She doesn't drive so she wanted gifts for her lady friends who drive her places on a regular basis.  How could I refuss.

These purses are for buddies who drive her to restaurants and movies.

This one is for the gal who drops her and picks her up from the train station when she travels.  It is a Potatoe Chip bag.(bet you can't make just one).  I think this is the 3rd one I have made.  I made my first 2 for the Ghaslies Blog Hop back in October.

I really like the bag because of all of the pockets but it just isn't big enough for my stuff.  I can carry my eye glasses or my wallet but not both so I thought I would try making the bag changing the dimensions a bit.  This is the outcome.  I think it will work for me.  I need to add a button or something to the flap of  this one since all that gray needs to be brightened up a bit.

One down and 2 to go

This is a rag quilt for Olivia.  She is my girl friend,s granddaughter. I made a quilt for my friend for Christmas and Olivia wanted to use it.   We decided she needed one of her own. I'm not sure how this picture will look full size but her name is stitched diagonally across in the white blocks. The back (no picture) is a different black and white print with alternating white blocks all with pink X's for the quilting.   Its been years since I made one of these.  Forgot about the mess it makes, everywhere.  Well she is a cutie and well worth it.

More Granny Squares and First Block of the Month

I really had a lot of batik squares left over from the Granny Square quilt.  It is amazing how quick you can build blocks when the pieces are pre cut.  My goal this week was to make enough blocks to make another quilt.  I met my goal, 20 blocks, yeah team.  I did have to cut an additional 2 strips of squares upfront but in the end I only had 8 batik squares left over.

I need to put these on a shelf for the short term.  I have 2 childrens quilts and 1 baby quilt that I need to get done in the next 4 months.   Yes this is a reasonable amount of time to do 3 small quilts, but only if I stop doing other things like Swoon and Granny square quilts.   The upside to doing the Swoon quilt is that I used the HST that were left over to make star blocks for the baby quilt. Win, win.

The first block is due tomorrow morning, the first Monday of the month.  March is a 9 patch.  I'm thinking that I might do all of these blocks in Reds and Whites, time will tell.

It is amazing how different the block looks depending on which way you look at it.

Oh well, maybe I can get a start on one of my assignments. Would be good to get one done this week. I'll keep you posted.
